Are alcohol risk screening tools optimized for workplace intervention and prevention programs? Upcom

Health promotion programs targetting alcohol misuse use a number of screening tools, but these may not be optimized for use in a workplace context. This upcoming (2017) article will report on findings from a WorkReach study on 422 at-work Canadians that examined rates of alcohol-related presenteeism and absenteeism, as well as at-risk drinking assessed by a commonly used screening tool.

Our findings suggest that alcohol screening tools could be better optimized to improve the selection of eligible workers for program participation, resulting in broader positive impacts of workplace health programs targetting misuse. The findings will also help develop optimized screening tools for use by the employee assistance program (EAP) industry. Stay tuned for the publication!
